Good, engrossing read, but doesn't live up to the great baseball books it tries to emulate.

Even though I am not interested in baseball and some of the play by plays were tedious to me I still enjoyed this novel.

Calico Joe, written by John Grisham, is a fictional baseball story about a man named Joe Castle. Joe Castle is by far the best rookie to ever play in the history of baseball. Paul Tracey is a young fan of Joe Castle and the son of Warren…

I thought this was good until the end. I found the end to be quite implausible. When the ‘bad guy’ does a complete turnaround I usually find that to be unlikely, and it makes the ending seem rushed.

Grisham's esteem in my mind soars with this terrific little tale, and I like baseball as much as I enjoy watching the guy suck out my septic tank--it is equally as boring to watch as golf, but Grisham tells a heartrending story with…

best book by far that I have read by John Grisham. sensitive portrayal of a real-life situation, well constructed and not over-done

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "This book was suggested to me by my wife, knowing my love of baseball. This is a fast-paced tale of a startlingly good rookie ballplayer, coming up against a less than great rival. The resulting…

I LOVE baseball and this book was a great baseball read. It might be fiction but it seemed like I was reading non-fiction!

Once I got passed the baseball play-by-play, the story actually picked up. Now his usual kind of story, but good nonetheless.

Good "up-lifting" story in a very short read.

Tried three times. Couldn't get past the first chapter. Perhaps a love of baseball is a requirement.

A short fictional story about a baseball hitter's brilliant career for the Chicago Cubs was cut short by one mediocre pitcher of the Mets. Not a big baseball nut, I find the story shallow and pointless.

I got this book out of the library because it is a Grisham. I know nothing about base ball, so, I was very surprised and impressed with this story. Grisham This is much, much more than a baseball story. It is a story of redemption, …

There are several faces to John Grisham. There is the author of taut legal thrillers; the man who pens legal adventures for young readers, and the writer of quiet, reflective novels examining people, their histories, memories and…

Calico Joe is a great book which reminds me of a recent book by S.King about a similar mythical player with a short-lived but great major league career. Grisham combines great real players with a couple of fictional ones to create a bad…

Too much baseball trivia for me, but the story about the relationship between the father and son was very believable and the ending was very touching! I had to wonder if this was John Grisham's personal experience ...it was so real and…

My love of the Cubs was overridden by my love of good literature. This one is simply baseball fluff with very little plot.

Not much interest in this one, maybe if I was a baseball fan? Plot was obvious, and there were too many statistics.

I loved this book. Don't be put off by the baseball theme. Even if you don't care for the game this book is about a lot more. Very quick read but very entertaining.
