In the beginning Mrs. Boxfish was a slow read and thought it might end up on the DNF pile, but as I continued I came to appreciate her moxie. I've walked many of these streets albeit not on New Years Eve alone which made me appreciate her…

Character study of an entitled working woman in 1930’s New York City who has way too many high class problems. Most of the story takes place between two world wars and the stock market crash of ‘29. Not the best of times for just about…

I loved this book. The reason? The title character. The intelligent, witty, dry, sophisticated, effervescent, but ultimately very human, octogenarian who is interested in everything & everyone around her – especially the love of her life,…

page 15, Helena Rubinstein Orange Fire lipstick stockpiled 25 tubes when it was discontinued in the 1950’s. Lilian is a poet and a fashionista (writes advertising for Macy’s; has 1 son; divorced from son’s father; recovered alcoholic;…

Enjoyed this immensely, especially knowing it is based on a real person. Good writing and I just wanted to know more and more about Ms Lillian.

I'm in my mid 70s and I was embarrassed for and ashamed of this woman's self absorbed complete lack of character. Written as a narrative, I started counting the "I"s at page 2 until the number was quickly in the three digits so I…

I've been listening to this book on audio and am just loving it... one of the best "reads" in a long time. There is a beautiful perspective on life and its myriad experience as lived by a creative, honest octogenarian. I'm so impressed…

The relatively young author did an outstanding job bringing the eighty something character to life. I wanted to meet Lily myself! (The cover does the character justice.)

The story tracks Lillian's inward journey alongside her actual physical journey through New York City on New Year's Eve. The sharp-witted narrator interweaves her street "adventures" of that evening with stories of her rise and fall as a…

It took me quite a while to get through this book; not because it was particularly long or a difficult read. It was actually neither of those things. But I am glad I stuck it it out. For I do not know if I could have lived the rest of my…

Take a walk around Manhattan with Lillian Boxfish on New Year's Eve 1984 and you'll learn so much... about history, dignity... and maybe even how to grab life by the horns as you age. Loved it!

This is one of those novels that will live in my mind for a long time. I found myself copying sentences thinking how much I want to remember and perhaps quote. I don't know a Lillian, exactly, but she reminds me so much of women mentors…

It took awhile, but around page 50 LILLIAN BOXFISH TAKES A WALK began to grow on me, in relation to the title character, as well as author Kathleen Rooney’s writing style. It’s New Year’s Eve 1984, and octogenarian Lillian steps out her…

A fabulous read. The writer describes New York so vividly, I can just picture it in my mind. Ms Boxwood meets kind individuals on her very long walk through Manhattan.

A great read. I'd love to take a walk and end with a drink at a local pub with the fictional Lillian Boxfish. I've read much of Ms. Rooney's work and it's all terrific. This stands out as perhaps her best yet.

Borrowed this book for my wife. She loved it. One day, I'll read it too. I expect I will also love it.

Lillian is the most wonderful female character that I've encountered in quite some time. Lillian, now 84, reminisces about her life during a long walk through New York city on New Year's eve, 1984. Born just before the turn of 1900, ,…

A well-written and very enjoyable book. Lillian takes the reader on a long walk through the streets of New York City on New Year's eve (1984). As she walks, she shares the humour, happiness and some of the sadness of her life as a career…

Good to hear the story of the pioneer women in advertising. A lovely romp, intelligent writing inspired by a gifted copywriter. Glad I found this book.

I truly loved this story. Lillian opens herself up to the world and doesn't seem to care what you think. She is what she is and it's a wonderful blend of complex opinions and feelings. Lillian's voice reminded me of a grandmother or…
