The most pointless movie ever made. I can't believe this got good reviews.

I know this is considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, western films in history. The visuals are amazing, especially considering how long ago it was made. The soundtrack is quintessentially 'Western'. But even with all that, after watching this really, really, really long movie, my only thoughts were 'meh...that was ok'. The visuals and sounds are amazing, but there was too much 'nothing happening' in this movie for me to really enjoy it. You can only have so many scenes where two people just stare at one another angrily. Cut down, this would have made an incredible 90 minute movie. It's a revenge story wrapped around a tale of the darker side of the early railroad and boomtown industries. There's even a moderate amount of gunslinger action. But that's the single turkey slice in a drawn out, harmonica playing, brow furrowing, anger glaring-bread sandwich. It's not a bad movie, and I think many future westerns took a lot of influence from it. But if you get bored easily, you may want to skip this one.

A classic to be sure, as are most of Sergio Leone's movies.

A great film- and one of the greatest Westerns of all time.

Five stars on rotten tomatoes and imdb. It wasn't that good. It was only ok. Haunting story of family's murder also brutal and overlong. It was almost 3 hours. It will be the longest 3hours of your life. BORING. VERY OVER RATED.

As this is considered one of the all-time great Westerns, i was trembling with anticipation when it finally arrived after it'd been on hold over a month.

What a letdown! Hard to believe the Guardian named this the #1 Western of all time. I guess, if your priorities are atmosphere and art direction. Mine aren't. I could probably name 30 Westerns i like better--the only #1 for this film is #1 most overrated

This is a 1968 Spaghetti Western directed by Sergio Leone.
Whereas the Dollars Trilogy flicks seemed quirky and up-tempo as a celebratory yet tongue-in-cheek parody of the icons of the wild west, this film appears much slower in pace and sombre in theme.
I like the camera movements---especially close-ups that capture men's inner tension, thought and anxiety.
It is one of the greatest Spaghetti Western movies, if not the most excellent films ever made.

Worth the time and effort to watch. It's haunting, thought-provoking, strange, beautiful.

A Sergio Leone movie, so lots of different music depending on the situation. Lots of killing, most of it unwarranted. This is not a feel-good type of movie, but is basic brutal at times. Henry Fonda does some really good acting in portraying a bad character.

One of my favorite Westerns.. I think just seeing Henry Fonda as the evil enemy is worth it. The first 10 minutes are among the best film making ever. The story is moving. The scenery outstanding. Music great...I think everyone interested in great movies should see it.

Snaky (at the train station with two gunslingers, and three horses): "Frank sent us." Harmonica: "Did you bring a horse for me?" Snaky: "Well... looks like we're... (snickers) ...looks like we're shy one horse." Harmonica: "You brought two too many."

People like that have something inside... something to do with death.
