Outlines five expressions of love--quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch--and explains how to identify and communicate effectively in a spouse's "love language."

Moody

Explores the all-important languages of love, helping each partner discover which actions are interpreted by the other as loving and affirming, and which as indifferent and demeaning. With study guide.

Are you and your spouse speaking the same language? While love is a many splendored thing, it is sometimes a very confusing thing, too. And as people come in all varieties, shapes, and sizes, so do their choices of personal expressions of love. But more often than not, the giver and the receiver express love in two different ways. This can lead to misunderstanding, quarrels, and even divorce.

Quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch are the five basic love languages. Dr. Gary Chapman identifies these and guides couples towards a better understanding of their unique languages of love. Learn to speak and understand your mate's love language, and in no time you will be able to effectively love and truly feel loved in return. Skillful communication is within your grasp!
His opening observation is how couple have a tendency to drift apart after they are married for about 2 years. The rest of the book is based on how each person perceives love differently and if not recognized the relationship will suffer. This being the foundational book, other books have followed speaking to specific scenarios, like for teens, singles or military. It is simple yet profound, well worth understanding.

Life altering! This is one of those books that I think everyone should read. It's a quick, easy read but it is full of information that can be used in almost every relationship (parent, child, spouse, friend).

It is nice to get a perspective in how to communicate with our significant others and discover primary ways we communicate feelings of love and admiration.

My brother found this book and then sugested it. So now all of my family have read it and love it. It has helped me see why I do some things and how/what my family feel and think. Also it was interesting to just see how different people are. I've now read it a second time and loved it again. I learned a lot more after a few years and with a second reading.

I loved reading this book. I wanted to read the Single’s Edition since it has some different things from the original book. It talks about the stages of romantic love, and also how the love languages relate to co-workers, parents, room-mates, and of course: Dating. All the examples and stories in the book are from real singles Gary Chapman has talked to. They were very helpful for understanding situations and people, and how to apply the different love languages. I feel like I have learned a lot. There are questions at the end of each chapter to get you thinking and to help you improve. The book was easy to read and enjoyable. I looked forward to what each chapter had to say. This book, like the original one, has a test to help you find your own love language.
