I like this series, though some of the books are better than others. I enjoyed this book, partly because of the insights it gives into the Chinese culture of Phryne's Chinese lover, Lin Chung, as he becomes the new head of his family, and partly because of the interesting plot twist involving Phryne's younger sister, who has been sent to Australia because of some unknown misstep in England. I wish Phryne did not take so many risky chances, though she seems to wriggle out of bad situations.

Interesting account of Australia's gold rush, Phryne ruins some more haute couture.
