"In this autobiographical tale, we follow Coelho and his wife Chris on a 40-day spiritual journey through the Mojave Desert in search of the eternal feminine. Translation has an uncertain feel and suffers from too much editing, pruning, and rearranging of the original as well as occasional misreading"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.

HARPERCOLL
A classic masterwork of spiritual tension and realization from Paulo Coelho, this powerful story of one man’s battle with self-doubt and fear is now available in a beautiful new package from HarperOne. An essential volume alongside Coelho’s other bestselling and influential books, such as The Alchemist, The Pilgrimage, Brida, and The Winner Stands Alone, the searing and unforgettable narrative in The Valkyries asks the questions most central to all literature—and all of humanity’s quest for understanding. Why is it that we destroy the things we love most? And how can we learn to let go of the past and believe in the future?

I tried I really did but way too religious just too much, great title, cover and story sounds incredibly interesting but first or second chapter flooded me with religion. Such a turn off. I actually read The Alchemist awhile ago and liked that one. This one is just horrible. And falsely advertised nothing whatsoever about angels or religion in the description.

Another extremely inspiring book by Paulo Coelho. He and his wife are the main characters and the story draws on Paulo's own personal experiences along a journey through the Mojave desert seeking their angels. Thee is a wonderful message of accepting one's flaws, overcoming one's limitations, and facing the universal fear that causes us to destroy that which we love. I loved this book, and I put it right up there with "The Alchemist" as far as enlightening and inspiring storytelling goes. 5 stars, and I highly recommend it to Coelho fans.

"Angels are love in motion. They never rest, they struggle to grow, and they are beyond good and evil. Love that consumes all, destroys all, that forgives all. Angels are made of that love, and are at the same time its messengers.
"The love of the exterminating angel, who one day will take away our soul, and of the guardian angel, who brings our soul back. Love in motion."
"Love at war," Chris said.
"There is no love in peace. Whoever seeks peace is lost." -- Gene to Chris and Paulo
