Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding stoyrtelling, Anne Rice makes real a family of witches--a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philsophy, a family that is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being.
"Unfolds like a poisonous lotus blossom redolent with luxurious evil."

This book was written in 1991 and I read it about that time. I think the mayfair witches series are Anne Rice's best!

oh my god! i loved this book! I'm actually not yet finished it but holy it's one of the best books ever (for me anyway)....its rich and deep in its story and back story, you really couldn't ask for more in a book, it takes place through out several hundred years and many locations around the world. just fabulous, can't wait to read Lasher next!

My word, what an amazing book-the lives of the Mayfair Witches is fascinating from the first Scottish witch to the modern day witches living in New Orleans and San Francisco. The mayhem and manipulations of this clan of powerful women and men is bewtiching (HA)

Rice knows how to entertain!

Whoa this is a rather long read and needs much commitment. The storyline is like riding a roller coaster - up and down. Ann Rice clearly exhibits a creative imagination throughout all 1000 pages; some parts could have been condensed but overall a good read.
