Chandler is a "vintage" writer and his PI seems rather contrived by todays standards with a code of conduct unknown today. His stories read like a very good movie script as he slowly pulls the pieces together. Not for everyone but a very good writer.

Recently, I revisited the movie version of “The Long Goodbye,” which starred Elliot Gould and Sterling Hayden and was directed by the late, great Robert Altman. The reviews noted that the Altman changed the story quite a bit, so I decided to read the book. While the film was great, the book also was great and it was almost like a separate story, with the same characters. This is on the list of the best 1001 books.

One of favorite Chandler stories , but I like them and was sorry when I arrived at the end of his writings.
