Daniel Goleman, who has long touted the concept of "emotional intelligence" in his book of the same name, now attempts to apply it to leadership. After having interviewed some 3,429 corporate executives, he has come to the conclusion that a true leader is one who makes his subordinates feel good. This may have some obvious counter-examples - one could imagine a company in which the leader makes his subordinates feel good but fails to achieve business goals - but Goleman's careful research methodology reveals that many executives who are most successful in the business world have this quality as well. They prime the pump for the creativity and energy of their employees, making them work harder for the organization's good.
