Three-and-a-half stars. While I think that most people who enjoy the Books of Bayern series will enjoy this, it was very predictable. Razo is a friend of Enna and Isi (from the two previous novels), and everyone assumes this is why he is part of the elite guard which is selected to escort an ambassador to Tira, the country that has just lost the war to Bayern. Razo isn't good with a sword, has had his heart broken by his forest girl, and is smaller than all the other soldiers. So, is it any surprise that by the end, Razo finds out what he is good with, finds a new girl and even grows a few inches? It's hard to begrudge Hale this feel-good story, but while the first two installments had the same kind of message, the stories had more twists and turns than this straight run.

A really good story. I couldn't put it down and read through the night. I'm looking forward to the final book in the series.

This book as a whole was definitely a different feel from the previous two books. It's more of a political murder mystery sort of thing. Tira and Bayern are trying to have peace talks, but someone is sabotaging it. And it looks like a fire speaker is involved...uh oh! Tensions run high, assassination attempts are made, sneaky political maneuvers are undertaken. All in all it's the sort of plot I'm easily drawn into, so yet another reason why this book was so easy for me to enjoy. Despite it dealing with death and war and whatnot, it was delightful, fun read as per expected of Shannon Hale. For the full review, head to OboeChica Books (so long and thanks for all the fish).

I loved this book! Razo is such a good character! I haven't read the first to but I'm really excited to read them!

I love Razo! He is so energetic and full of life. Out of Isi, Enna, Razo, Dasha, and Rin, Rin is still my favourite, though.

It was interesting since the main charactor was a guy this time and I'm a girl.I had to walk in his shoes and I was basically a boy throughout the whole story.Razo is really funny and has a huge appatite.Dasha was cool but not my favorite.

I LOVED all three books.

This is an amazing book packed with mystery, suspense, and intrigue. Razo is a funny character and i think you will enjoy reading his book. This is a well told story that is amazing, compelling, and exciting. I hope you take the time to read this. There are two books before River Secrets: The Goose Girl and Enna Burning. I reccomend this series for people 13 and up

Great sequel to Enna Burning. I loved it. Includes all the past characters as well as adds a few intriguing new ones. A great read.
