A complete dud. Even with great makeup Brosnan and Cooper still look the 25 years older than McAdams that they really are and the plot gives no compelling reason why she would be interested in either of them. 4 possible endings all of which are terrible. Good actors can't make a bad movie better.

Well acted, particularly by Chris Cooper as a middle-aged man who believes he must poison his wife (Patricia Clarkson) to spare her the pain of divorce so that he can marry his young mistress. Unfortunately, it's not clear what is so compelling about the mistress that both Cooper and his single, lad-about-town friend (Pierce Brosnan) both fall in love with her, other than being young and pretty, nor why she would suddenly fall in love with Brosnan. In other words, the characters seem driven more by plot devices than by emotions or character.

Three alternative endings on the DVD, plus commentaries.

The unpleasant, improbable plot & characters are duds, all right. But the late-1940s period costumes & interiors are to die for. So suggest you try watching with the volume turned off.

You'd think with 4 top-notch stars like this - there'd be some real fire-crackers exploding, in both the substance and style of this film! Instead... all we get is one big DUD going off, after another... What a waste of talent!
