I found it a little confusing. The characters sort of looked the same in the black and white, and it seemed a lot of the scenes had nothing to do with the plot. The cover looked like the book was for a younger age group, but I'd probably say it is good for the thirteen and up crowd.

I felt that the story went off in random directions, but it was interesting enough to read the whole thing.

Larson writes convincingly about the quintessential camp experience, as told by a spunky but unsure pre-teen. The protagonist, Abby, is faced with navigating a social landscape that has changed drastically from the summer before. A "mean girls" cattiness is present, but Larson writes about it in a thoughtful and nuanced manner that is often missing from the discussion. Much of the plot circles around Shasta, a silver-tongued, lightening strike victim, whose appearance upsets the social dynamic. A recommended, nostalgia inducing, read.
