Written and directed by Rod Lurie and released in 2008, this 107-minute drama tells the story of a mentally-struggling political reporter.
The film is inspired by the real case of journalist Judith Miller, who in July 2005 was jailed for contempt of court for refusing to testify before a federal grand jury investigating a leak naming Valerie Plame as a covert CIA operative.
It turns out to be a well-crafted political thriller, in which major actors perform powerfully, grippingly and brilliantly.
The director respects the intelligence of the audience.
The movie contains real drama and creates real suspense, and it has a point to make.

Good movie. I would recommend this movie. Makes a person think about principals and standing up for what you believe in.

Horrible movie just horrible great cast though. That didn't save it one bit. The movie was boring and a waste of time to watch. Spoiler alert the source was the C.I.A. agents daughter. The reporter went to jail for a year and then prison for 2 years all not to give up her source. Who was a 8 or 9 year old little girl. In the meantime she looses her son and husband. Just skip it believe me so beyond disappointed I watched this. You're welcome in advance.

Until the very end this film seemed exceedingly predictable.

Good movie. The idea is just like "Fair Game" (2011), but the events are shown from a perspective of a journalist.

Rather powerful film, kind of the flip side of "Fair Game." Good acting in parts, but a point is somehow lacking ...

This movie is centered around some very important issues that are worth debating. While it made an attempt at presenting one side of the debate, the key points got entirely lost in the pursuit of a Hollywood type movie. An overly dramatic storyline, and characters that don't behave smartly or credibly. There's a bit of a twist in the end, but with hindsight of that twist, you would conclude that the whole story and especially the ending was just stupid.

Nothing But The Truth is a fictional movie based loosely on the real life outing of Valerie Plame as a covert CIA operative. Valerie's husband, a career diplomat, wrote a NY Times article exposing some of the trumped up reasons for the invasion of Iraq. Valerie's outing was most likely in retaliation for her husband's NY Times article. In any event this movie presents a good argument for preserving freedom of the press and the confidentiality of news sources. Whether those standards should trump national security matters is at the heart of the movie.
