I enjoy MC Beaton's writing a lot. It is light and fun. I do wish she would develop Sonsie and Luggs beyond foisting them off on others or letting them out to run at random doing who knows what to the local wildlife on the beach or in the heather. I especially enjoyed this installment as it lets the reader travel a bit with the characters.

For the first time, I think Beaton has missed her mark. The storyline was awkward, the characters less-than-loveable, and there was a distinctly unsatisfying resolution at the end. Beaton has been such a reliably wonderful author; I hope this isn't the beginning of a downward spiral.

The chimney sweep himself, who was to have been cleaning the estate chimney, is found dead on the motorway, an apparent accident victim, a few hours later....
