If Authun raises him as an heir, then the boy will lead his people to glory. But Authun discovers not one child but twin baby boys. Ensuring that his faithful warriors, witnesses to what has happened, die during the raid, Authun takes the boys back to the witches who live on the perilous mountain of the Troll Wall. And he places his destiny in their hands.

Much better than I expected. The author brings you into the Norse world, complete with Norse values, cultural norms and their view of their gods. He's done his research. The story is intriguing, but it is the magic and the mythos that transfix the reader. The magic feels "other". It feels...alien and compelling. It's slightly hard to follow at times but if you have any knowledge or interest in the Norse I think you'll like this book. It has one of the best twists on a fantasy staple I've seen and one of the most fair depictions of that staple I've seen. Though the author struggles to be clear sometimes, at others his phrasing is perfect. The kind of phrasing that sticks in your head and makes you think.
