A witty, moving, and empathetic look into the orbit of actor Johnny Marco. You have probably seen him in the tabloids; Johnny is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood. He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along. Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life.

Nothing happens. Boring.

I rarely use the word boring, it's the best description for this DVD.

More like "Nowhere," amiright?

This is the tale of the life of famous fictional actor, Johnny Marco, as he travels from place to place doing such things as publicity interviews and picking up awards. He seems totally bored by his existence and his life is only lifted somewhat by the occasional presence of his daughter. He just seems to be “Somewhere” whenever he wakes up in the morning. While Ebert gave this four stars (out of 4 stars), I just was not as thrilled. Maybe the movie seemed to be boring because the life of the actor was so boring. The film was directed by Sofia Coppola, daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, director of such classics as “The Godfather”(Soifia got her start in films as Michael Corleone's baby), “Apocalypse Now,” and “The Conversation.”

I can appreciate a beautifully directed, written, and produced movie. This isn't any of those things. This is garbage. Aside from Marie Antoinette, Coppola really is showing herself to be a one-trick pony, where it seems the only point of her films is to show how vacuous life can be. That's interesting once, but there's a reason movies are edited rather than showing life in real time. It's because most of the time that's a complete snooze-fest, and if that's the point of this movie, we get it in the first five minutes and then are smothered with it for the rest of the film.

Couldn't get past the first half hour. It's not necessary to rent a movie to voyeur a slow-paced, pointless existence.

A slow, almost monotonous beginning, but a nicely shot movie that shows how a self-indulgent actor slowly wakens to the emptiness of his life thanks to his adolescent daughter whose needs, like his, cannot be satisfied by the trappings of stardom. There's an unplotted feel to the storyline that I found appealing but which might not appeal to everyone.
