Some tough scenes in this movie, but so worth watching! The actors are stellar - the ensemble of Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, and Mark Wahlberg is hard to beat. The movie offers a window into a community that desperately needs heroes, and the fighter, Micky Ward, steps up to the challenge. This is a great movie for couples, with its examination of how old family expectations compete with new relationship demands.

If you want to see a really good boxing movie, watch "Hands of Stone",
about Roberto Duran. I am not a boxing fan, but this film was very
inspiring; almost more about pride and love of country.

I'm not a huge fan of boxing movies, but I really liked this one. The focus wasn't really on the boxing - it was rather on showing the struggles of a family of Hillary's deplorables in the face of very limited options about their lives. Christian Bale was incredible; Mark Wahlberg was his usual appealing self. I had just finished reading the book Hillbilly Elegy, which gave me a heightened appreciation of the family dynamics. Not exactly enjoyable watching, but it stayed with me.

This film is about two brothers named Micky and Dicky Ward who come together against all odds to train for a historic title that has the power to reunite their fractured family and give their town what its been waiting for, pride. Even though they have a rough relationship that can take them both down, the bond and blood of these brothers is their only chance to redemption. Micky must gain the confidence to fight for what he wants and deserves to achieve his true happiness. He gets this confidence from his whole family and friends and especially his brother Dicky by helping him in the boxing ring and listening to what Micky wants to do for himself. My opinion of this film was that it was entertaining and inspirational as I saw a fractured family come together and repair what was needed to make this family whole again. It was a great movie to watch because it was an amazing boxing movie and also the actors were great such as Christian Bale who was outstanding and was a great character as he entertained me the most. I would recommend watching this movie because the whole story of these two brothers will move you and you will find it inspirational. This movie will leave you surprised and amazed as you watch the actors and also knowing the true meaning of family. Overall, I liked this movie, the boxing was great and I found it inspirational through how a family who has been through a lot, find true happiness.

It's a well done movie but might not be for everyone. It's as much of a boxing movie as it is a family drama movie. The main character is trying to make a living as a boxer but his family is dragging him down and holding him back even though they think they are helping him. The movie is as much about that as it is about his efforts at training and boxing. It's based on a true story and feels like it. Everything is very believable. The family dynamics stuff really shows how people in your life can hurt you by trying to help you the wrong way, and how to succeed you really have to be able listen to yourself and be willing to step away from people who are bad influences even if they are important people in your life. The performances are great, each actor is really suited to their role and nothing feels cheesy or like someone is trying too hard. Many of the characters here do have a bit of a "trailer trash" vibe which can be a little off putting but you can still appreciate that people are shown trying to accept their past mistakes and turn their lives around. As far as critically acclaimed movies go this movie feels a lot less pretentious then some. If you check it out just recognize that it is not primarily about boxing action and more about the life situation of the boxer.

The subjects of this true story are raunchy trailer trash!

The Fighter is a boxing movie that tells the journey off professional boxer Micky Ward on his mission to become the best. You see that hard times Micky has to face as his brother is the towns crack head and is constantly getting high that sometimes affects Micky's career. I found the plot of this movie very easy to follow. I had no unanswered questions at the end of the film. The plot was very well written and entertaining. It shows how dangerous drug addiction is and how it can completely ruin someones life. It is great they showed that to show younger audiences not to get into illegal and dangerous addictions. It also teaches a lesson on how hard work pays off. You see Micky fight very hard throughout the whole movie and how he accomplishes a lot on his mission to greatness. The acting in the movie was incredibly done. Watching Christian Bale in this movie playing the role of a junky was amazing and also eye opening to see that drugs can have such a bad impact on someones life. The Fighter found the perfect mix between love, action and sorrow that makes this movie an instant classic and will keep me coming back to re-watch it . I give The Fighter a 9/10. I would recommend this movie to everyone as it has important lessons that people should learn and watch out for in their own life. That hard work pays off in the end and that drugs are can impact someones life very badly.
