The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book."

An excellent book by Grisham about the craziness and insanity of the modern tort lawyer system that promises very vulnerable people their "justly-owed money that they have been somehow screwed out of.
Meanwhile, these over-blown "ambulance-chasers can get very rich for shaking down the business that they are going after. (John Edwards made 16 million off of 1 lawsuit!)
Grisham very accurately portrays the damage that this kind of lawsuit can do to everyone:the victims, the companies being sued, and the lawyers themselves.
This kind of lawsuit should definitely be reformed and Grisham does an excellent job in giving a very good portrayal of the flaws of our legal sytem!

Comment
Add a CommentLoved the book. Lawyers are a necessary evil and in some instances more so than others.
Pharmaceutical firms should be cracked down on when or where ever possible. They are far greedier than the seedy lawyers pursuing them.
The underbelly of the Law business. Characters with significant flaws. 'Ambulance Chasers.'
A running story of ups and downs, with the central character, reassessing his career, and life.
The search for the 'Home Run', many seek in life. Many twists. A good read.
Loved the book but so hated Finley and Figg and wanted to throttle them myself. Looking forward to getting to more of Grisham's novels. Happy Reading!
Did enjoy and love this book very much! All characters are interesting, goofy, but likeable. Grisham has a great sense of humor - I laughed a lot! Definitely, this book made me feel excited and warm without any dull moments.
As suggested by other readers, it was hard to like 2 of the lawyers but a great read and as always a fascinating insight into USA legal system.
Rarely a John Grisham i don't enjoy, and this did not disappoint. Took a while to actually like the characters, but presumably a realistic picture of different niches in the law profession. Grisham's attention to detail balanced with humour is always engaging.
This was a wonderful book to read. John Grisham really shows some of the nasty tactics of litigators and companies. It really kept me wanting to read more.
Did not like characters till into one third of the book. Enjoyed last third.
a formula book but enjoyable to read!!
As with most Grisham novels, an excellent read. I found the conclusion especially satisfying. The lines between the 'good guys' and 'bad guys' are blurred, as is their outcome.
