The movie was filmed in Calcutta. I doubt I'll ever go there, so it was interesting to get the chance to see it. According to the director, many of the people in the movie are just people & not actors, so I assume it's fairly realistic. Other than that, the film isn't too memorable.

Very slow moving. Lacks a story. Not much a script for the actors to work with. I got bored watching this movie. The ending is sad.

Very thought provoking. An insight to soul searching.

A really interesting film and more realistic in it's depiction of India than the famous one called the marigold Hotel. I got it quite by accident and was pleasantly surprised by it.

A very well done melodrama. Well acted, beautifully filmed, and the strong local color, ie the Indian locale (which provides a milieu for disorientation facilitating powerful psychological changes), work together to raise the film up a notch, making it melodrama instead of soap opera.

First time I saw Joel Edgerton was in KINKY BOOTS... he didn't leave a lasting impression. Then I saw him in the Aussie Indie flick - ANIMAL KINGDOM. Now that was a little shocker from 'down-under' that made me stand up and take notice! This quiet but very efficient Aussie actor didn't really have to say much to get noticed! You felt terrible to see his untimely end come so soon in the movie! Then, of course, he delivered the wonderful co-leading role in WARRIOR... and now I'm hooked! So I took out THE WAITING CITY to see what promise of Edgerton's brilliance lay hidden there (this film is from 2009 - it came out before ANIMAL KINGDOM and his WARRIOR opus) and you know what? His co-star Radha Mitchell steals scene after scene from him, I'm afraid! That can happen quite easily sometimes, when the director of the film uses her camera and all it's wonderful angles and close-ups to accentuate an actor's finest features! Director Claire McCarthy almost seems to be 'in love' with her female lead - either that or she's a brilliant feminist film auteur who loves to make her female star the all-consuming focus of everyone around her - including her husband in the flick, played by Edgerton. I think the film took too long to get to Calcutta where it's raison d'etre lay... but regardless... I came looking to find signs of Joel Edgerton's latent talents as an actor... and got some of it... but really left with a deeper love and appreciation for his female co-star, Radha Mitchell! She was beautifully filmed... and stole the show - Ironic justice - that!

slow moving. Australian couple travel to Calcutta to adopt an Indian baby, encounter red tape and marital problems. She has a power job, he's an unemployed musician.
