"This is a comprehensive how-to book about altering commercial patterns to customize the fit to one's own body before cutting out fabric and sewing the garment. Poor fit is the number one reason many sewers get discouraged with garment sewing. Author Sarah Veblen guides the reader through the steps of sewing a muslin test garment, fine-tuning the fit by pinning the garment to mold perfectly to the wearer's body, marking the adjustments, and then transferring those alterations to the commercial pattern. Veblen had developed this method during her career as a professional sewer and teacher and it is far more comprehensive and accurate than quick-fix flat-pattern methods in which patterns are altered using only a few body measurements. The results produce a perfectly fitting garment every time"-- Provided by publisher.
""Reference for sewers with step-by-step instructions for fitting test garments on the body, then transferring adjustments to paper patterns before cutting out and sewing the final garment"--Provided by publisher"-- Provided by publisher.

This is an excellent fitting companion. It along with a couple of other books are now part of my personal resources. The other ones are, but not in an order of importance as they all have something that created Ah Ha moments.
- Create the Perfect Fit by Joi Mahon
- Easy Guide to Sewing Pants
- Fast Fit by Sandra Betzina
All the above are available through our library, and very helpful if you use commercial patterns.
Finally
- How to Make Sewing Patterns by Donald H McCunn - which is an outstanding walk through creating your own patterns from scratch. Unfortunately this one is not available from our library.

I liked this one for fitting patterns for clothing. I liked it so much that I bought my own copy!

I checked out about 5 books on fitting, and this is probably the strongest in terms of illustrating where fit is not happening. All the fitting assumes you're working on another person, not yourself like I was, and this was my biggest challenge.

Would check out again. (Maybe even buy my own copy.)

I've spent the better part of the month reading alterations and fitting books, and this title has the best photo illustrations of what the problems are and the direct way to correct them. Even though the problems are shown on muslin slopers, you could use that visual information and apply it to clothes that you already own and alter them in future patterns to suit your particular fitting needs.A very practical guide to fit issues.
