Weird, out there and fun. What do you do when your uncle's lifestyle comes out to haunt you? Oh by the way, you never knew (naive adult much) that his addiction existed, and then through this it launches you on a funkier journey through reality where fear becomes a thing, not just a metaphor. Where it causes massive ninja attacks, and gives neighbours a chance to get over themselves and their possible racism. And he gets the girl. Fun and trippy.

Not one of her best, but it's so good to hold a NEW MacAvoy novel in my hands. I knew it would be a worthwhile journey, and it was, although the book seemed less well-crafted than the "Lens of the World" series, for example. The different segments of the story were not well balanced. But the characters are engaging and the mixture of humor and suspense holds the reader's interest. The character known as "the Tibetan brother-in-law of the Dead" is a spot-on satire.
