I wish that I could be more positive about this book, as I love Bruce Swedien's recordings. This is simply a badly written book.

It reads as though the author (while a consummate professional engineer & producer is decidedly an amateur writer) did this by himself with no editor, and the publisher accidentally published it with only half of the manuscript sent in.

It is certainly not a book that will greatly interest Michael Jackson fans, as, despite the title, it barely talks about him. Particularly unforgivably for Bruce Swedien fans it barely mentions recording with MJ, and there is not enough technical information to interest serious students of recording techniques either.

Large sections of the book are blatant self-promotion pieces for Bruce Swedien written by other authors/artists. These sections are irrelevant for most readers, and largely unnecessary. Who in the recording industry hasn't already heard of him, and been impressed with his work? What MJ fans are going to find these sections interesting or revealing?

Certain large sections of the manuscript are almost word-for-word repeats of other parts, which for such a thin book is a waste of space and is a commentary on the lack of care that seems to have gone into its writing and publishing.

This book, given the talents and experiences of its author, could so easily (probably with a ghost-writer, or collaborator) have been really a great read and resource for so many people. Frankly I don't think it will truly keep the interest of any of the thousands of people that would be attracted by its title. A real disappointment, I am sorry to say.
