Elon Musk and Steven Hawkings are IMO, not out of line with their dire concerns as to the dancers of autonomous machines. This film clearly supports their fears. With 40 odd countries developing this technology (2009) autonomous 'security' agents will become this century's arms race.

VERY interesting to watch. The UAVs are controlled by a station in Nevada. No troops are at risk. Much lower vulnerability for the military.
