Kings from across the continent of Westeros vie for the Iron Throne. As winter approaches, the cruel young Joffrey sits upon the Throne in King's Landing, counseled by his conniving mother Cersei and his uncle Tyrion, who has been appointed the new Hand of the King. But the Lannister hold on power is under assault on many fronts, with two Baratheons donning crowns, and Robb Stark fighting as the King in the North.

Like "Lord of the Rings" on steroids !!

Great series.

Well worth the long wait.
I agree that its best to watch it on DVD.
If possible, see several episodes in a row at one time,
... its like living in another world !!

DARN ! ... now I have to wait for Season 3.

Standouts: Peter Dinklage and the locations & costumes; as for the rest: you're sure to find some one you like, for if you don't like a scene or character, wait five minutes, and along comes a new one. I like the way Martin often uses the women to challenge or subvert the men's self-images.

A becoming sequel to Season I, re-affirming the series as one of the best in the fantasy genre for an adult only audience.

Peter Dinkage is excellent as tryion an underestimated character who should be king ( see I Claudius for example. the battle of black water was epic (episode2.9) with horriffic battle scences

I'm really enjoying this. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion (the only decent) Lannister is among my favorite characters in the series. (He made quite an impression on me when I first saw him in "The Station Agent"; he's an excellent actor.) Maisie Willliams as the young, headstrong Arya Stark is another favorite of mine. King Joffrey and Queen mother Cersei are NASTY!!! Jeez! I'm sure they'll get what they deserve. Quite a handsome cast altogether. I never know what to expect with George R. R. Martin's clever writing, but I'm champing at the bit for the third season of this medieval/fantasy. FIVE STARS.

This series as absolutely entralled me right from the opening credits to the end of season 2. Sort of a medieval history epic with a touch of fantasy and magic, it deals with several deuling famlies each claiming kingship (and one queenship, but they don't know about her yet) over the land of Westeros. Dealing more with intrigue and plots rather than extended battle scenes, it is a good character study and shows what people are will to do or sacrifice for their goals. My only complaint about this season was the limited screen time the Daenarys and her baby dragons storyline got. Of course, that probably won't pick up until the dragons get much larger, but I still would have liked to see more of this young girls transition from innocent child, to warrior queen. Highly recommened show and make sure to start from season one. No skipping episodes.

Still as graphically bloody and gory as the first season and suffers from the loss of Sean Bean as Ned Stark. Still, though, some classy acting (Cersei for one) and great music. Sound effects are overdone (the sound of blood splashing? oh please) and some spectacular scenery. Worth watchng but is still far inferior to the story of Lord of the Rings, no matter how hard it tries to copy it.
