It looks they used the relaxing countryside to make a nice film that actually unfolds as a boring, and probably inaccurate fiction as some describe about the past USA president FDR--the script is not that great, cinematography is just okay, and the acting is not very good even though it has a good cast of actors and actresses. Okay for watching on TV, but not really a film type for a movie.

I liked it for the story it told - fiction. Relationships in a time and place distant but not so different from here. now. But, if it is as historically inaccurate as other reviewers describe, I can see why it is disturbing. Lots of people have a hard time discerning TV drama from "reality" tv from the news.

Amid the chaos of a hectic presidency, we see how FDR cherishes his time away from Washington at his home in Hyde Park. A nice look into his private life regarding his relationships with cousin Daisy and wife Eleanor. Film represents the personal side of FDR and his charismatic ability in connecting with English royalty.

Slow and uncomfortable at times, it still is worth watching the Royal visit sequences. Bill Murray showed his acting chops taking this role on. Historical accuracy, however, lost out to creative license in this one.

What a complete waste of time. If you know your history of the 1939 Royal visit this isn't it. I could list endless errors that destroy the storyline. One star, it helped me fall asleep!

Americans relaxed and royalty unnecessarily stuffy - doubt it was that straightforward but did find FDR's personal life intriguing. Unacceptable then and even eyebrow raising these days!

If you know anything about King George and Queen Elizabeth's visit to the United States in 1939 you know that this film lacks historical accuracy. The superimposition of the relationship of FDR and his fifth cousin Daisy is also very inaccurate. They did have a special and deep relationship but it was not at all sexual. I had been tempted to see this film at the movies but a glad that I never got around to it, thus saving my money! Not worth the time.

Presidents fool around? Who knew?? I am wondering if the King eating a hot dog was some kind of metaphor. Taking one for the empire I guess.

Interesting bio-info on FDR,.. and a good feel for the tempo of that crucial time in history. Murry a revelation ! This film is a good companion piece to a viewing of "The King's Speech",..right afterwards. (... and the latter is much better.)

I found this film very disturbing because it created a nostalgic tone in regard to adultery, and betrayal. -spoiler alert- To add to my general repulsion of the characters', well, lack of character, the beginning of the end for me was when Daisy performed sexual favours for FDR in his car away from his police entourage in a field of flowers. The turning point was when, after both apologized for their inappropriate behaviour, Daisy's voice over said, "And I new then, we were going to be great friends." Yikes! Such is the beginning of friendship?! Well, they never did become what I'd call friends. He led her into an adulterous affair, and traumatized her when she became aware that she was but one of three concubines. She accepts becoming part of the harem and even finds herself confiding in one of his ladies. I gave this movie one star because the actors can act. Skip this one.

Bertie: "...But, to answer your question, Elizabeth, I *am* going to eat a hot dog--five hot dogs--TEN! ...I'M GOING TO SHOVE THEM IN MY MOUTH, STICK TWO UP MY NOSTRILS, TWO MORE IN MY EARS, AND WALK AROUND SO THAT PEOPLE CAN TAKE PICTURES OF THE KING OF ENGLAND WITH HOT DOGS HANGING OUT OF HIS ORIFICES!"
