This movie had a lot of potential. I really enjoyed the character Chappie and the more renowned cast. Hugh Jackman does a great villain. The only downfall was the weird ghetto thugs who "parent" Chappie. They're supposed to be in some kind of musical group. When is Hollywood going to learn to keep music and acting separate? I understand that South Africa has a huge white British and Dutch population. But I found it strange that all the lead gangsters were white especially those two goofy looking thugs. In fact there weren't many native Africans in the movie. Normally I would be against this train of thought because political correctness has gone out of control. But I felt that it made the movie less real.

So, f-f-f-folks - I'm seriously asking myself - What, exactly, was former Vancouver Film School student, Neill Blomkamp trying to tell me here with his latest Sci-Fi offering - Chappie?

Was he trying to tell me that even in South Africa it was the whites, not the blacks, who were the nastiest, most ruthless (and most laughably tattooed and hair-doed) criminals of all?

And, was he also trying to tell me that he was (in the incarnation of Chappie) desperately looking for a surrogate "mommy" (whether she was of flesh and blood, or not)?

Anyway - I'd say that this brain-dead, Sci-Fi clunker about a robot who was part neurotic child (duh!), part bad-ass crack-head (double duh!), and part "WTF!?" idiot (triple duh!), literally, scraped the absolute bottom of the barrel when it came to its totally tiresome and truly predictable storytelling.

This poorly-conceived, $50 million production was so obviously geared to a juvenile mindset (even though it was restricted) that I was actually surprised to find out that Disney Studios didn't have their grubby, story-ruining fingers in this messy, little Chappie-pie.

Like District 9, this movie has some great social commentary. However, the rest of the movie is pure crap. Bad acting, script, plot, and science contribute to an overall cringing experience.

Wasn't that interesting. But it has a good story line towards the ending.

Kinda glad I barrowed this instead of buying it. The previews played it up too much and I agree with another person on it being similar to Short Circuit only being grittier and strong in language. I will say Hugh Jackman was a great villian...I really hated him lol.
