Add a CommentA weird allegory, but ultimately a story about friendship
Reynolds has done a great job delivering a message that children should hear before they start using social media. Ages 5-8
Nerdy Birdy is not like the other birds. He has thick glasses, short wings and likes video games and books. Finally, he finds a group of birds who are just like him! Knowing what it's like to be an outsider, Nerdy Birdy becomes friends with another bird who is different.
A great book that shows you don't have to hang out with the cool crowd to be happy & have lots of friends. Emphasizes the importance of accepting yourself and others, just as you are. Birds of a feather DO flock together. Ages 4-8
Unlike the "cool" birdies with their glossy plumage and hunting skills, Nerdy Birdy is scrawny, bespectacled, and into playing World of Wormcraft. Rejected by the cool birdies, Nerdy Birdy is happy to find a crowd of like-minded avian geeks who welcome him with open wings: "There's always room for another nerdy birdy." Yet when Nerdy Birdy reaches out to lonely, awkward Vulture, his new friends balk, forcing Nerdy Birdy to make a tough choice. Laced with pop-culture references and illustrated with exaggerated cartoons, this modern fable about inclusive friendship will please adults and kids alike. Picture books newsletter November 2015
