The story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear that travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined; until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says "Please look after this bear. Thank you," and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.

First created by author Michael Bond in the late 50’s, marmalade-loving Paddington Bear and his misadventures have gone on to become a British icon. Now director Paul King brings the beloved teddy bear to CGI life in this live action comedy and the results truly look like a bedtime story. A nice mix of warm fuzzies and sheer ridiculousness (Kidman’s character really is too much) with more than a touch of magical whimsy as wallpaper comes to life, a movie screen becomes a doorway, and the Brown residence morphs into an antique dollhouse. The CGI mayhem is impeccable—a police chase through the suburbs is a triumph of fancy vs reality—and that little bear with his duffel coat and proper English accent is just so gosh darn huggable you’ll want to run out to the nearest toy store before the end credits finish rolling. Michael Bond himself makes a cameo playing a tea shop patron who raises a cup as Paddington’s cab whizzes by.

I enjoyed Paddington very much. It's funny, intelligent and the animation/special effects are tasteful and create a believable new world. My personal fav Sally Hawkins is endearing. Recommended for kids AND adults.

I don't care what others have said about this movie. I liked it. Yes, it attempts to recreate a great kid's book and it goes over the top sometimes, but the cast is strong, the acting superb. It may have a low energy level, but smaller tykes (and some bigger ones) will like it. Just watch and enjoy.

As an adult viewer I felt that there were many important themes within the storyline of a cute bear and a search for home in a new city. There are themes to do with loss of home and family, historical references to the evacuation of children from central areas to the countryside in Britain during WWII, ideas and concerns relating to refugees and immigration in general, and also the perpetual conflict of wildness and risk versus safety and security. The film was touching and dealt with the dilemma of keeping the family protected and secure while considering how adventure and challenges enhance life experience. Adaptability and flexibility provide this family with new experiences, new skills and a brand new meaning of family.

With the overwhelmingly positive response from critics, I put aside the first impression I got of PADDINGTON from the trailers. Boy, was that a bad move. I should have trusted my gut. It was a weird and slightly jarring take, too immature to be entertaining to adults but not written with the younger generation in mind. It was a film without a target audience. With a thirty-five year gap between my mother and my younger sister, I expected that at least one of them would take to it, but neither deemed it very interesting. It feels trite and boring in comparison to some of the family flicks they produce today. Unfortunately, I feel they missed the mark with PADDINGTON, not just tonally but with the overall story, and so, I can't recommend it to anyone.

Not as good as I thought it would be. The ending was a disappointment.

Very entertaining and unexpectedly hilarious! Still smiling at its delightful charm and fantastic humour. For all ages, and definitely worth a few extra steps to the juvenile DVD collection.
