Another excellent book by one of my favorite authors, Helen Frost!! Abigail and Claire are returning to their summer retreat with changes in the air. This time they are returning to their beloved cabin by the lake with their new stepmom. Ten years ago, their mother tragically died by a lightning strike at Heartstone Lake. Now the family is returning and changes are everywhere. Their mother's belongings are packed away and the cabin takes on a new look. Claire especially has a hard time accepting Pam, the stepmom, and accepting the fact that they have to now share their father's attention. Abigail is also changing; boys become important to her. Claire is starting to feel left out. And, on top of all this, a new addition to the family, a baby boy named Blake, is born. Written in a variety of poetic forms, Helen Frost masterfully weaves together this beautiful coming of age story.
