this is the most fascinating and moving book I have read in a long time - and I have read a lot of books. I knew(or thought I knew) the story from cbc interviews but I was unprepared for the feelings this book left me with. The very worst and the very best of humankind all in one book which should be read by everyone in the world. It gave me insights into middle eastern culture and a sympathy for the situation its inhabitants are in. A state cant control religion but religion can certainly control a state and if it does the state (and its people) are effed.

I thought I knew the ending as I have read the reviews in the Globe and Mail. The ending itself is wonderful, but what happened before their lives intersected is so interesting and moving and I could not help but read as fast as I can. I just cannot help wondering how they met in Vancouver. I cannot put this book down, it is written with human insights and humour as well.
