I remember seeing previews for this in the 80s and being a little freaked out. If you didn't see it when it was released, well, it's very much of its time. It's a weird mishmash of 70s paranoid political thriller (a plot to kill the president) and sci-fi thriller. The artwork is clearly mimicking Indiana Jones and it is worth noting that "Temple of Doom" came out the same year and both have heart ripping scenes and Kate Capshaw. Dennis Quaid is a bit cheesy as a psychic who can enter dreams, but Max Von Sydow and Christopher Plummer are both good. The premise isn't bad and really, Nolan's "Inception" is a much bigger, more expensive version of a similar idea. Maurice Jarre did the electronic score. I think this was the first or second PG-13 movie.

This was a cutting edge effects driven thriller of the 80's. Part sci-fi, part horror with a bit of romance thrown in. The effects are very dated, but the overall concept of the movie and it's dream sequences are still relevant.
