On New Year's Eve, a poor old man is returning home after having been unable to sell his wares. On the way he runs into six little Ojizousama statues, each with snow piled up on their heads. Feeling sorry for them, he brushes the snow off, and gives a straw hat to each of them. In return for his generosity, they grant the old man a New Year's miracle. Suitable for self-study, building vocabulary, and developing reading skills.
A retelling of a Japanese folklore about small buddhist statues giving rewards to a poor merchant who placed braided hats on their heads for protection from snow.
