While the middle film of the John Wick trilogy was slick and action-packed, it lacked the depth and emotional / psychological intensity of the first film. It was less [The Empire Strikes Back] and more [The Matrix Reloaded]. I’d still recommend it though, because where the John Wick series went, many non-superhero action films followed, e.g. [Atomic Blonde].
_______________
 My feeling was that the first [John Wick] was stronger because its emotional core was deeper and ran more intense than this sequel, and because it introduced all the interesting novelties of its world. I have upgraded my rating of [John Wick 1] to reflect that. Yes, there were still networks of past relationships and partnerships that were being rekindled or burned by Wick (Keanu Reeves), but nothing was going to bring back Helen, the Mach 1, or the dog. The storm was over, the task now was to make the aftermath as or even more interesting.
 It was great that the filmmakers resurrected the franchise but they had a difficult choice: how to top the first film? Alienation and social relations were themes that ran through this film, but they choose to emphasize world building, a deeper dive into John Wick’s world, in attempt to get him clear as if the life of an assassin was an addiction to cure. I know that they got the first part down, but the second part? While the combat was slicker this time, the intensity and refreshing novelties of the first film have been mostly replaced by rules, rituals, and the obligations of the underworld. The professional respect and silent admiration that assassins had for each other, for instance between Wick and Cassian (Common) was nice, but the novelty has long gone.
 Interpersonal intensity, more action, and more humour just can’t displace that initial feeling of peeling back the door to see the world of Wick: the gold coins, the references to Greek mythology, the underworld word play, the rules of the Continental Hotel. I also agree with many Bibliocommons viewers that the novelty of the Continental Hotel has been overplayed, though Winston and Charon remain awesome on the strength of [Wick 1] alone. While a broken man could be expected to burn bridges or even ideate blowing up the world, in their plan to set Wick loose from the world of assassins, the filmmakers did not use fireworks when they should’ve. Also the music was unmemorable.
 “You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back” (Morpheus from The Matrix).
 As he ran through Central Park with his dog, I wondered why Keanu didn’t just fly away. I mean, isolated from the rest of the world, that’s now filled with people who want to kill him (for just $14 million?), he’s not John Wick anymore. No, he’s Neo from [The Matrix]. Oh, but then I saw that he had a limp and then I realized that he couldn’t jump high enough to begin flying.
 Run, Neo! Run!

Too much talking. Interesting premise of hotel "rules" was short lived.

I likes the first release John Wick. He had a reason for his rage. It fed the story line. This second
John Wick falls incredibly short for me. It left me with a bad taste, and relentless, mindless killing. Did not enjoy at all. Watched, wanting it to get better. Never did. Not a good story.

Plenty of balletic mayhem, but precious little evolution in the design of the world of John Wick, so clearly defined in the first instalment of this trilogy.

However, that amusing Is-he-Italian?-Is-he-British? actor from Melissa McCarthy's "Spy" does add a little colour this time around.

Again Keanu Reeves shots so many people it would be pretty hard to keep a tally on. He has retired and wants to stay that way but the rules that govern this underground activity make it so that a marker called in, the one allowing him to retire, is used to make him have to kill someone he does not want to kill but is obligated by the rules to do so. You can guess, or just watch, to see what he does next.

Great movie. More action than the first one.
The movie starts with an awesome action scene. And the pace continues throughout!

Thought the original was a little bit better, but I enjoyed this one

Other than the fact that the entire plot was not believable and that no human could endure the injuries and kill as many people as he did, I kinda enjoyed the movie. Complete fiction, but in adventure movies that is not uncommon.

John Wick was very well done, John Wick Chapter 2 not. It is bad when the people creating the movie say they are surprised the John Wick character was a success. This character had the opportunity to challenge the James Bond movies but it fell flat on the script second time out. Too bad as I loved the first one.

John Wick was an exhilarating ride but introduced some heart in the form of Reeves' tragic motive. Chapter Two will continue the action but loses the heart. Fun for those that enjoyed the first one or any of the Taken films.

John Wick: Winston... tell them... Tell them all... Whoever comes, whoever it is... I'll kill them. I'll kill them all.

Winston: 'Course you will.

I can assure you that the stories you hear about this man, if nothing else,
has been watered down.
===
That's why I need the ghost, lo Spettro (Italian for the Ghost), John Wick.
===
Two rules that cannot be broken, Jonathan. No blood on continental grounds, and every marker must be honored.
===
You stabbed the devil in the back and forced him back into the life that he had just left. You incinerated the priest's temple. Burned it to the ground. Now he's free of the marker, what do you think he'll do?
===
He was already back.
-Oh, he came back for love, not for you.
===
Oh, and remember, you owe me.
-You don't want me owing you.
