"In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I've often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net. Now I'm letting my guard down." —Hillary Rodham Clinton, from the introduction of What Happened

For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history. Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. This is her most personal memoir yet.

In these pages, she describes what it was like to run against Donald Trump, the mistakes she made, how she has coped with a shocking and devastating loss, and how she found the strength to pick herself back up afterward. With humor and candor, she tells readers what it took to get back on her feet—the rituals, relationships, and reading that got her through, and what the experience has taught her about life. She speaks about the challenges of being a strong woman in the public eye, the criticism over her voice, age, and appearance, and the double standard confronting women in politics.

She lays out how the 2016 election was marked by an unprecedented assault on our democracy by a foreign adversary. By analyzing the evidence and connecting the dots, Hillary shows just how dangerous the forces are that shaped the outcome, and why Americans need to understand them to protect our values and our democracy in the future.

The election of 2016 was unprecedented and historic. What Happened is the story of that campaign and its aftermath—both a deeply intimate account and a cautionary tale for the nation.

I gave this book two stars because I found it confusing to follow as the author flitted back and forth between quarterbacking the missteps and wrong turns of her 2016 presidential campaign, her family life and self-care, and what the Democratic Party needs to do to win future elections. Clinton is very upfront about her mistakes and how the Democratic Party ran a traditional campaign against a very nontraditional Republican Party candidate. I also gave the book two stars because I got tired and annoyed at hearing the same points hammered over and over again. My husband might be right when he commented that the book must have been written by Clinton's speechwriters after hearing the same points mentioned for the fourth time. As the book neared the end, I felt the author's tone becoming more shrill and righteous.

I thought I'd sign out the audio book cd version, but with 14 discs I didn't bother, and instead read some of the reviews on Amazon. I would rather see her in the Presidency than the current POTUS, but I am not interested in listening to 14 discs. Most books are only 5 max. LOL.

Hillary Clinton was past her before due date. She lost the election all by herself. She had so much baggage over the years. Not the least was her husband former President Bill (hound dog) Bill Clinton who took advantage of a young intern, Monica Lewinsky and other women. I watched live as she condemned the women and called them liars and bimbos. No they were not. She amassed enormous wealth through politics with her Clinton Foundation and her political career. Her part in the Benghazi fiasco with Obama where the staff was killed. She was part of the fact that Bernie Sanders did not have a chance in the election. She is what happened. Bye bye Hillary

Provides an important inside perspective from a central figure in the complex political environment of the 2016 US Election. Historically, this is an seminal work by the first woman nominated for President of the United States by a major political party. This perspective will be added to the many that will be written as time unfolds.

Her previous experience as US First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State adds to her accounts on politics and policy. This is a deeply personal reporting.

This is an excellent book and you can see why it is on the top of the bestseller list. She takes responsibility for her part and shows herself to be thoughtful, intelligent and honest . Nothing like the current President .

Oy Vey. Can't wait until this one comes out. What more can she say that she hasn't already said and put the blame on for her losing that's been seen on both interviews and in the written formats? Russian interference? Apparently, the former POTUS KNEW about it, and, probably, so did she, but they didn't do anything, since it was a given that she was going to win. When she didn't, suddenly, it became an issue. She's no doubt going to blame everyone but herself. Might check this out for a good laugh. And by the way, Mrs. Rodham Clinton has no sense of humor. She's a raging megalomaniac who verbally and physically abuses those subordinates who work under her. And everything she accuses Trump of, she has it in more abundance tha anyone else. Why in the world would people want a spouse abuser for the first female POTUS anyway? I am all for black presidents, just not Obama who was very, very, very unqualified for the job. I'm all for women for presidents, just NOT HER!!!!!!!!! Anyone else but not her. Can't wait for this to come out. I think it will be for a great laugh.
Update on my review: Due to family emergency, I didn't get to listen to the audio book like I wanted in a leisurely time, but, I did manage to get through one CD, and that's all I could stomach. Poppycock. Boulderdash. Rubbish. Malarky. Self serving. Lies. Lies, Delusional. I sort of feel sorry for Hellery. She needs to check herself into Betty Ford. I don't blame the alcoholism being married to Bill. But, seriously, she needs to check herself somewhere and get some serious mental help. She has delusions of grandeur and prosecution. Just the first CD, she comes across as a very sore loser. She says she's proud of the unhinged who marched and protested the day after the Inauguration. She says she's proud of the grassroots movement they are forming. What grassroots movement? Of big babies? Of anarchists? Of Nazi type thugs bent on overthrowing the government and country she claims to love so much? How can being a sore loser who insults the man who beat her for the office be considered a role model for women? She accuses of all sorts of stuff that her husband, she herself and Obama do and did the whole time Obama was in office. Very hypocritical. There's obviously going to be two camps for this book. The delusional and the ones who see the truth and what a sore loser crazy women she is. I see that my review is reported as offensive. How fitting that someone in the delusional camp says my review is offensive. I find the reviews about how wonderful the book and what a role model she is to all women offensive. How can she be for all women when she ruined and went after the women her husband raped and she took money from Muslim countries who hate women, gays, lesbians and transgenders? Well, I find this book offensive with the audacious mendacity she uses to tell us "what happened." I'll tell you what happened. Bernie women didn't vote because it was either him or no one, and people are sick of the way things are in our government. I thought this book would be good for a laugh, and the whole content didn't offend my sensibilities so much, I would probably laugh at it, but, the lies, lies, delusions and other things made me too mad. I applaud the others who find this book inspirational. I happen to be in the camp that doesn't find it inspirational. I find it offensive. Instead of banning "To Kill a Mockingbird", this book should be banned.
