I read this book (among many other resources) when I had to survive the suicide of my boyfriend in 2003. I found it really helpful.
One idea from the book that stays in my mind and that I tell other people is this: in our society we learn how to acquire things, but we never learn how to let go of things... how to experience loss. We end up picking up lines from movies and TV shows, and I can tell you first-hand, that is really awful when you're at the receiving end of it.
I believe this book will help you - and others who want to help you - live through loss. You are not alone.
