The book opened slow, and I almost stopped reading it. Then a family with 4 active, independent kids moved in next door, and the book became a fun read. I like that kids from 6 to 11 can see themselves in this story. The 3 boys aged 10-11 include one bully. The 6 and 11-yr-old girls very much hold their own. A boy (8) is smart and assertive -- and likely on the autism spectrum. ---------- Dog Friday is the 1st book of a trilogy. I just finished the 2nd book, The Amber Cat, and loved hearing more about Robin's parents, and Sun Dance. The first 7 chapters were warm but slow. The rest is suspenseful, poignant, amazing.
