Even though I generally do like actor, James Garner - I didn't think that he was well-suited for his role here in TV's "The Rockford Files" (from 1974). For one thing - At 46 years old - Garner was clearly too old for a part that was definitely meant for a man about half his age. Garner played Jim Rockford, a $200-a-day P.I. working in and around Los Angeles - And I think that if any investigator emulated Rockford's "modus operandi" to get the job done - They'd either be dead in no time flat, or, at least, be out of work, like - pronto! For all of the beatings and roughing-up that Rockford took in these episodes, it made no sense to me why he refused to carry a gun in order to avoid having to endure all of this unnecessary violence, and what-not. And, last but not least - At a 50-minute running time - These TV episodes (with all of their excess story-padding) were way too long to hold my undivided attention all the way through to their inevitable conclusion.
