Summary
The author presents the often intertwined lives of nine Jewish men who flee anti-Semitism in Hungary following the First World War. Many of them flee to France and Germany whence they are forced to flee again from anti-Semitism of the Second World War. The book concludes with an Epilogue with thumbnail sketches of three contemporary Hungarian refugees. Marton provides endnotes, a bibliography, and index. Some black and white photographs illustrate the lives and careers portrayed.
