You start out thinking you know just what this is going to be - standard fun frothy British upstairs-downstairs comedy of manners with pretty period costumes and scenery. The new bride will blow fresh life into the whole family, everyone will be transformed and everything will turn out for the best. And then it turns into something completely opposite, and I love that. Instead, it's a meditation on things like the real value of love at first sight, what love really is, how long you should stick it out with a dysfunctional relationship because of a sense of duty and obligation, etc. And it's just that, a meditation - there aren't really clear answers one way or another at the end, you're left to think about it some more and figure it out for yourself. Very nice reversal. Just loses half a star for occasional uneven slow or overly silly spots.
