The author has used a childhood phrase "Black Dog," an expression of Victorian nannies to connote bad moods, into a bizarre book where both Churchill and a librarian hallucinate a black dog that brushes its teeth and makes a barbecue. Churchill did have dark times ( who can blame him?) that he referred to as the "black dog". The reference was most likely instilled in the nursery and not a statement that he actually saw such an animal. Ridiculous premise and terrible book. Kristi & Abby Tabby
