An amusing, touching film with a strong message about how imagination is important for adults as well as children. Travers' backstory is told through flashbacks, leading to some intensely emotional moments as pieces of her tragic family story are set against the fantastical moments that they inspired. While the ending of the story is a foregone conclusion (we know that Disney will get the rights to Mary Poppins), it's the how that keeps the viewer engaged, leading to a culminating moment between Walt and Mrs. Travers that nearly had me in tears. I could see some people getting bored with this film, since the pacing is gentle and most of the plot is conveyed through gesture and dialogue, but it's richly rewarding if you give it a try.
