I read Of Mice and Men for my book club. I'm aware that it is a classic; but I'd be lying if I said that I know what qualifications make a book a classic. It's a good novel and I applaud Steinbeck for being able to tell a good story in just a little over 100 pages. Obviously, I didn't appreciate how Crooks was treated by Curley's wife; but I'm glad that the author gave him a voice rather than treating his character like common furniture in a room, especially due to his social status on the ranch. I'll admit that after reading this story, I wouldn't mind reading another Steinbeck novel.
