I've always considered Christopher Columbus has always been like a diluted John Hughes for me. He doesn't have incisive commentary the way Hughes did. Columbus's work is less daring and more family friendly. But compared to the swill before and after Chris and John, he seems like a god in retrospect. Everyone knows about HOME ALONE, but ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING came first, with the sparkling personalities of young Elizabeth Shue and Keith Coogan. I expected silliness, but I got comedy and heart instead. I loved it. Maybe it was the sweet taste of nostalgia, but I would recommend ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING to everyone.
