Summary

it starts off with how young robin hood is outlawed for killing the king's deer and his forester. he abides in sherwood forest for safety from the king. other outlaws are hiding there too. they choose him as their leader and are willing to give up their lives for them. robin's first adventure is a fight with john little, whom they "baptized" as little john. they go on to have many merry adventures and fights. in the end, robin hood becomes a royal subject to the king. he returns to sherwood, however, and becomes an outlaw again. the king gets angry and sends the sheriff of nottinghamshire and sir william and a lot of yeomen (whatever they are) to capture robin hood and his men. they have a furious fight in which the sheriff is killed. robin is sick to the heart, for they have killed hundreds of people. he goes with little john to see his cousin, the prioress of a nunnery, to see if she would bleed him a little for the benefit of his health. the cousin secretly turns against him and instead of opening a small vein near the skin on his arm, she opens a vein that flows from the heart. robin hood is slowly bleeding to death. he gets hold of his horn and blows three times. little john, who had been hiding in a glade nearby, runs to his master, for whenever robin hood blows three times on his horn, he is in sore need of help. little john sees that the nuns won't open the doors, so he grabs a heavy stone mortar nearby, and breaks the door open. he runs upstairs to where robin hood in and orders the prioress to stop the flow. she obeys and little john tries to cheer him up. robin hood knows that he is going to die, so he asks for his bow and a smooth arrow, which little john gets. he tells him his wishes of how he is to be buried, then shoots the arrow, saying that where the arrow lands, he is to be buried. robin hood has died. little john runs to tell the others. he and six other men come back, and they bury robin hood. there, the story ends.
